Prayer I Asked For

I ask for strength that I might achieve;
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health that I might do great things;
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy;
I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.

I got nothing that I asked for,
But everything that I hoped for.

Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered;
I am most richly blessed.

I’ve asked for many things that were wants of my heart;
I was given a paint brush that I might touch hearts.
What’s your gift?

    You only have to know you, to know that this pray is sooooo appropriate for you.
    I consider myself blessed to know you and call you friend.
    Be Blessed,
    Alva

    Thanks so much for putting this prayer on your website! I had carried it in my purse for many years (I am now in my 70’s) and somehow it got lost! I have been desperate to get another copy, and, just by happenstance, I “googled” prayer/I asked for–and wonder of wonders–your web site popped up! I am so grateful to have one of my favorite prayers back! Thanks again!
